In March 2003, the organizing group for FiNuT 2005 founded the „TuNiF Nordwest — Technik und Naturwissenschaft in Frauenhand e.V.“ (TuNiF Northwest — Technology and Natural Science in women’s hands) association with the aim to connect and strengthen bonds between employees and students in technology, mathematics and natural science from northwestern Germany. In addition, the women’s association wanted to make the gender-specific situation of women in natural science and technology in this area known, to discuss problems and make them transparent.
Organizing and carrying out the 31st Congress for Women in Natural Science and Technology in the 2005 was a step toward reaching our association’s goals. For their realization, supporters for the FiNuT congress in 2005 were convinced to join from existing women’s institutions and organizations in the region, which related to the idea of networking.
Since its founding, the association has widely networked with further institutions. One example among others is the association’s participation in the project “Science City”. The association’s activities have shown that concerning the special situation of women in natural science and technology, there continues to be a great need for discussion. Many positive responses have confirmed our commitment to continue this strategy here in the region.
